Just to let you know that from now till the end of June, we are on holidays, travelling through the Mediterranean countries, but the website will still be going. Family members are looking after the site for me and I will be checking the mailbox every couple of days. So if you have any queries on anything at all please still contact me, I might be a day late but I will still answer all emails.

This brings me to the main topic of the bloq. Over the past couple of months I have had a couple of customers who have ordered patterns, etc., but when I try to contact them, those horrible words come back to me

‘MAILER DAEMON, ‘ This email could not be delivered because the recipient’s email box is full or they have exceeded their quota’.

They start to get upset in their emails. Why have I not answered them,’ Just to let you know when this happens I resend the emails every day waiting for the words NOT come back to me.

I know that you are busy ladies and the bead knitting is your form of relaxation but now and again we have to clean out our mailboxes. Me personally I dislike the chore immensely, but needs are, so please keep them tidy and would you ask your friends if theirs are clean too or have they wondered why have not received any emails.

Happy Bead Knitting

Helen

Since the release of Giula Manfredini beautiful cross stitch skirts for our dolls, we have been fortunate enough to receive orders for the dolls from all corners of the globe, from England to France, from USA to Canada and also here in Australia.

It is a pleasure to see how other people view the dolls, I know I was being a bit one sided viewing a doll with a bead knitting pattern in mind. There are several ways to dress these dolls besides making silk and satin costumes, There is also the embroidery on the felt, also the hand quilting

DIFFERENT WAYS TO DRESS A HALF DOLL

Since seeing Giulia’s beautiful cross stitch it bought back a lot of memories, good ones. Cross stitch was the first craft that I was taught at aged 11. Even obtained high marks at school for my needlework and still have the original supper cloths that I did. Then I thought of all the different ways that these beautiful little dolls can be dressed.

There is of course the bead knitting and who would be without it and there is the beautiful cross stitch which are beautiful they all take time to produce. If you want a quick present for a little girl or a big girl there always your sewing chest. That piece of gold material that you have had in the bottom of cupboard for years, then purchase a piece of felt, add a little lace that you had tucked away for a rainy day and some braid or flowers that you picked up at the local markets for next to nothing and said that you would use one day. Well put them all together and there you have a beautiful bed doll. Do you still call them bed dolls or do they have a fancier name now. Then there is that piece of satin that you thought was very pretty years ago cut out a piece to fit around a toilet roll or hand towel cut down add some more flowers and some pretty ribbon and there you have a donation to the local hospital or church for a raffle prize. You can make it as easy or as hard as you like.

I have attached some pictures of some of the dolls that I have made over the past couple of years for such occasions.

Do you check your tension before you start a pattern, like most patterns state to do, I don’t, I am usually to impatient to start the knitting, Then , when I have started and I am knitting to tight and somehow the knitting is not sitting right that is when I will change to the different size needles. Just because a pattern states you should use 1.25 needles that is for the average knitter and unfortunately I am not the average knitter nor average in anything to come to think of it. My knitting is always too tight, and when it might benefit me in some patterns it is when I do lacy patterns that I have the biggest problem. Using your tension has a lot benefits including a pattern a bigger or smaller size, for example if you have a 10cm doll and I have put out a pattern for a 12cm doll you can knit the pattern but try I I using smaller needles then you will not have to adjust using less bead loops. So it took me a long time to learn, but get yourself comfortable with the right size needles, either larger or smaller than recommended, you are the one knitting and of all things it is supposed to be a pleasure to knit not a chore .

Please give me your hints on how NOT to twist your bead loops when knitting and taking out the twists in the knitting cotton before knitting . And we will discuss that in a later topic
