I am very pleased that fellow crafters have sent photos of their finished work. I love to see how other people work their own touch into the base patterns and end up with work that is uniquely theirs.

That is what patterns are all about, I firmly believe that patterns are there for a base idea then as you are working then our own little changes happen, or a planned and then you have your own. So thank you ladies for sending in your photos and please ladies send me some more.

Giula Manfredini has created this beautiful skirt for another of our dolls. Giula creation is called Cecelia. Grace stands at 10 cms and has a beautiful skirt cross stitch in colours to suit her bodice. Congratulations Giula on another superb creation.

We are fortunate that one of our clients used one of our half dolls for her cross stitch and it was featured on the front page of a magazine called ‘The Gift of Stitching’. Giula Manfredini, with her New Year Doll called Alayne . The doll used is called Marilyn .

Thank you for being so patient to the customers who had difficulties this past week with the website. There were a few teething problems but everything is working in good order now. If you would like to contact me I would like to give you a small token for your patience For those of you that had accounts with the old website will have to create new accounts with this website as that is something that I could not transfer from one website to another

Tension – Knitting Tension – not that other sort

Do you check your tension before you start a pattern, like most patterns state to do, I don’t, I am usually to impatient to start the knitting, Then , when I have started and I am knitting to tight and somehow the knitting is not sitting right that is when I will change to the different size needles. Just because a pattern states you should use 1.25 needles that is for the average knitter and unfortunately I am not the average knitter nor average in anything to come to think of it. My knitting is always too tight, and when it might benefit me in some patterns it is when I do lacy patterns that I have the biggest problem. Using your tension has a lot benefits including a pattern a bigger or smaller size, for example if you have a 10cm doll and I have put out a pattern for a 12cm doll you can knit the pattern but try I I using smaller needles then you will not have to adjust using less bead loops. So it took me a long time to learn, but get yourself comfortable with the right size needles, either larger or smaller than recommended, you are the one knitting and of all things it is supposed to be a pleasure to knit not a chore .

Please give me your hints on how NOT to twist your bead loops when knitting and taking out the twists in the knitting cotton before knitting . And we will discuss that in a later topic

WELCOME TO OUR NEW HOME

Ladies & I would like to welcome you to our new home. It is Springtime, time for cleaning up so we have dusted ourselves off and created a bright & cheerful new home. We have new pictures of our old favourites and we have some new pictures of new dolls and new patterns, and there is some exciting new dolls on the way including a male
doll for all those ladies who requested a Groom to go with their brides. Soon we will welcome a new doll maker, who uses a different technique in her painting, she also uses the china paints. She also has dolls that are unavailable anywhere else. Therefore an exciting start to old venue at a new home To our international clients and visitors here in the Southern Hemisphere we are in Spring while you are getting ready for your Winter

My apologies for not writing in the Bloq for a while, but now you know why, so please ladies send me your photos of your completed work and do join in Hints & Tips for the craft of bead knitting. Everyone likes to learn something new or pass on something they have developed that makes the craft so much better. In the future I will get back to the articles that I was writing, but anyone would like to ask any questions or suggest a topic please contact me or post a comment on the blog

Choosing Your Beads And The Colour

Every person has a different method of choosing the beads and the right colour, me personally, I have to look at the doll. What is her bodice like, is it an evening gown or a day dress, is she dressed in Victorian clothes or Flapper attire. For example I just completed a gown for Marie Louise, everyone knows that this particular doll bespeaks glamour – but understated glamour. . She is also very regal, so she speaks a glamorous gown in pastel colours, simple lines, so no bold colours. Then you take the doll Lady Ursula she is also glamorous and a bold colour, she looks fabulous in deep reds and black with gold trim. for Marie Louise you would use a Pearl or a Ceylon Bead, small and pastel coloured for Lady Ursula a silver lined bead in deep colours with gold trimmings. Day wear I think is harder to design, what is the bodice like, and she is wearing a hat, like Harriett, or is her bodice very simple with maybe a frill across the front and over the sleeves like Debra. But then Debra is easy to work out, what woman would have a bird on her shoulder at a glamour event. The Lustre beads have a great range of colours and are very easy to thread and knit so I am inclined to use them a lot. The end choice is your entirely, but do not forget the cottons. You can use light colours under dark beads or vice a versa, again the choice is your entirely
